STANFORD RANDOM

SEPTEMBER 11, 2024

STANFORD GOLF COURSE & SHARP PARK GOLF COURSE

The 1st Random Golf Club Classic

On the western edge of the Stanford campus, nestled amidst the eucalyptus and live oaks, Stanford Golf Club has been lying rest for ninety-four years. The sun-scorched fairways, dappled with shadows from overhanging trees, whisper stories of Watson and Woods, amateurs in cardinal red -- legends in the making. It’s a place where the echoes of a well-struck drive or the soft thud of a perfect putt linger in the air. In the evenings, black-tailed deer take the course. In September, as students return, Stanford will host Random Golf Club in the first Random Classic, a 27-hole experience that promises community and competition. For one day only this Fall, we’re all Tiger’s teammates.

About The Stanford Random Courses

Golf architecture aficionados will recognize Stanford Golf Course designers George C. Thomas and Billy Bell Jr. as influential figures of the Golden Age, renowned for masterpieces like Riviera and Los Angeles Country Club. But familiarity with these legends isn't required to appreciate the exceptional experience that awaits you at this dual-venue event.

Stanford Golf Course, a jewel of collegiate golf, is steeped in history and tradition. It has been the proving ground for golfing greats like Tom Watson, Mickey Wright, and Tiger Woods. Nestled in the scenic foothills of Palo Alto, this course offers breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline and challenges that demand precision and strategy.

Just a short drive away, Sharp Park Golf Course stands as a testament to the genius of Alister MacKenzie, the architect behind Augusta National and Cypress Point. Known as “The Poor Man’s Pebble Beach,” Sharp Park combines seaside links with inland charm, offering stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean and Laguna Salada. Its historic Spanish hacienda clubhouse adds a touch of old-world elegance to this public gem.

Inaugurating our series of RGC Classics, The Stanford Random is set to be an unforgettable event. Feautring the prestigious Stanford Golf Course and the historic Sharp Park, this event offers 27 holes of remarkable golf amidst stunning landscapes. From the championship layout of Stanford to the seaside links of Sharp Park, participants will experience the best of what these legendary courses have to offer.

"You know, if you look back, the only regret I have in life is not spending another year at Stanford, and I wish I would've had one more year."

- Tiger Woods
