A round can change how you see a place, but the people you play it with can change how you see most other things. This is the story of Random Golf Club.
A Note From Our Founder
From the very beginning, Random Golf Club has been about bringing people together on the golf course. Since we started in 2018, our mission has deepened, our community has grown, and our business has refined.
Our films, diverse stories of golf around the world, taught us that the best education comes when two things happen at once: when you meet new people in new places. And the education I'm talking about is perspective. This line from Proust sums it up:
"The voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
I've seen a new perspective arrive in a new land with old friends, and I've seen it at your home course with people at random. The seed of that idea is in our earliest DNA: our name. "Random Golf Club" was chosen to highlight the opportunity you have to gain perspective when you welcome a random golfer into your foursome, or when you are that random golfer.
A lot of brands talk about community, or host events, most often to sell a product, which is totally fine. But for us, community is what we do. It's all we do. And it's measured by an experience, a quality. It's the feeling of "I'm going to play golf with those people again."
We spend our time getting better at creating that exact experience for every Random Golfer in the world. To give you an idea of how we play and what our events are like, our code is below. It reflects our values. We hope to see you out there soon.
Our mission is to connect golfers around the world. Our purpose is the reason that mission means anything at all.
It's to create happier lives through community. Which sounds grand until you see how simple the mechanism is. Take people somewhere new. Hand them a game that's impossible to master and makes everyone slightly vulnerable. Then get out of the way. Nobody here is going to shine your shoes or say good shot when it wasn't one. We're here for the craic, and for what you take home afterwards.

A Glimpse Into Our History
2010 — Mega
The first video Erik ever made. Erik met Mega at his local course, having known him from a twelve step program in LA. Mega had changed the way he thought about golf, so he asked him to come back a week later with a camera rolling.
2011 — Be The Ball
After falling in love with golf, he'd read Zen Golf and wanted to tell the story of golf's spiritual side. This was Erik’s first documentary on golf - breaking new ground in golf content.
2015 — The Beginning
Adventures in Golf, episode one, July 15 2015. Erik had never hosted a video like this before and he'll tell you this one is him still finding his voice. The idea underneath it was already there though: go somewhere, find the people who play golf there, tell their story.
2018 — Meet Random
"Random Golf Club" gets said out loud for the first time on 21 April. Eight days later Erik films himself working out what it could be. The day after that, there's merch, handmade by Erik. Nobody has held an event yet, and nobody knows if anyone will show up to one.
2018 — Our first accidental Mad Scramble
Ten people in Australia had asked to play while Erik was in town. He said yes to all of them, realised he couldn't, and told them to meet at one course at one time instead. They all came, so he begged the course to let them all play at the same time, which they allowed. From that morning on, this stopped being one man with a camera.
2018 — Three weeks in Scotland
Ten films, made on almost no sleep. It's the trip a lot of people still associate us with, and it's where the club worked out that a week away with the right people beats a round at home every time.
2020 — Golf Ball Hunter
Lockdown, and no way to shoot anything new. Every hard drive we owned went out to editors to see what they'd find in the footage. This one blew up, and it fit the club better than most things we'd planned. Proof that sometimes the best things are random.
2021 — The first ace at a meetup
Somebody holed out in front of forty people who'd met that morning. The noise it made is the reason we always point a camera at par threes. Shout out to Liz Breed, forever etched into RGC lore.
2021 — Our first actual Mad Scramble
Until now a meetup meant twenty-five teams of two, playing near each other. This time everyone played as one team of fifty. One side, one card, every shot counting for the whole group. Erik's word for the energy was ‘visceral’, and nobody saw it coming. Every event since has aimed for that feeling.
2022 — Rule 17B
The official Rule 17 is "play it as it lies." We read it and decided 17.b could be better. Ours says “The Player Must Laugh At The Bad Shots”, which is still the only rule we enforce.
2023 — Quite possibly illegal
A short film the R&A wrote to us about, twice. Ten million views across platforms. Their last email said the shot was quite possibly illegal, which felt funny given that's the title of the video.
2023 — Twenty one events, twenty one days
We got a tour bus and did it. One event a day, three weeks, whoever turned up. Some people drove four hours for a nine hole meetup and stayed for the drinks afterwards. It's the most concentrated version of what this club actually is.
2024 — The 400Some.
Four hundred people on one hole in Canada. Six years earlier it was ten people at one spot in Australia. Same idea but with a far bigger tee sheet pushing golf to the extremes.
2026 — RGC Adventures
Adventure was always the point. The courses change, the countries change, the length changes, but the thing we're chasing is the same one we found in Melbourne in 2018. Go somewhere you don't know with people you don't know yet. We post the time, you show up.
