One Course. Two Directions. Endless Decisions.
There is nothing in the United States quite like The Loop. Designed by Tom Doak and tucked into the pines of Northern Michigan, The Loop is a fully reversible golf course. One routing plays clockwise. The other plays counterclockwise. Two completely different golf experiences built into the same ground.
Fairways that welcome one angle suddenly reject you when you come at them from the opposite direction. Greens that feel friendly from the Red routing turn into puzzles from the Black. The Loop forces you to rethink everything you know about strategy and shotmaking.

WHAT MAKES THE LOOP A CLASSIC?
The Loop challenges every assumption you bring to the course. Your favorite landing areas shift overnight. Your best angles flip. Greens you thought you understood reveal new personalities.
Playing both routings back-to-back is the only way to truly feel what Doak created. With the RGC crew on site and a diner takeover after Day 1, this becomes part golf trip, part architecture masterclass, and part debate about which routing wins.
It is a two-day Classic built for players who love thinking as much as swinging.

THE HISTORY
When Tom Doak set out to build The Loop, he wanted to prove that reversible golf could thrive in the modern game. It required precision, restraint, and a deep understanding of how contours can serve two completely different purposes depending on direction.
Opened in 2016 at Forest Dunes, The Loop immediately became a must-play for architecture fans. The fairways run firm and open. The greens lean toward the traditional links style, using slopes and short grass to create challenge instead of heavy bunkering. Everything is meant to be played along the ground as much as through the air.
It is minimalism at its smartest, strategy at its purest, and one of the most innovative designs in the country.
